Competitions
At the beginning of each year, you can audition to be on competition teams of each style and ability. On these teams you will get the opportunity to perform against other universities through several inter-university competitions throughout the year all over the UK!
Over the past few years, Newcastle University Dance Club has become one of the ones to beat.
Competitions are a chance to represent the university and really feel part of a team; they give you a great sense of achievement, are an excellent way to make friends and are so much fun! To be part of the competition team you must be dedicated and hard-working, but anyone who has been part of a team will tell you it’s a fantastic experience.
Keen to choreograph and perform with your friends, or go solo? You can audition for the wildcard category for a chance to compete with your own individual style.

Competition Season 2023
This competition season was particularly successful as we broke our NCL Dance Club record with 36 trophies!
At Edinburgh Comp, we placed:
- 1st Advanced Jazz and Inter Street
- 2nd Inter Jazz and Inter Contemporary
- 3rd Advanced Contemporary and Advanced Tap
- Voted ‘People’s Choice’ (Best University, chosen by all other universities)
At Newcastle Comp:
- 1st Advanced Jazz, Beginner Jazz and Inter Street
- 2nd Advanced Ballet, Advanced Contemporary, Beginner Contemporary and Beginner Tap
- 3rd Beginner Ballet, Advanced Tap and Lyrical
- Inter Street voted as Judges Favourite
At Northumbria Comp:
- 1st Inter Jazz, Advanced Contemporary, Inter Ballet and Wildcard (Gabby and Kate)
- 2nd Advanced Ballet, Advanced Jazz, Inter Tap, Lyrical and Inter Street
- 3rd Advanced Tap, Inter Contemporary and Wildcard (Beth, Katy & Imogen)
- Advanced Ballet voted as Best Costume
At Manchester Comp:
- 3rd Advanced Jazz, Advanced Tap and Inter Street.
At Nottingham Trent Comp:
- 3rd Beginner Jazz
